Hi, my people,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So while I\u2019m still figuring out what words we (yes, even us millennials) tend to use wrongly, the Gen Z crowd has gone and taken language to a whole new level. My Gen Z sisters-in-law, for example, calls me\u00a0bro<\/em>. At first, I was like, wait a minute, do I need to get my upper lip done more often? \ud83d\ude09 But then, I quickly realized this is just how the next generation talks. Everyone is a\u00a0bro<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re family, a friend, or even someone they just met, it\u2019s\u00a0bro this, bro that<\/em>. And honestly, it\u2019s not just \u201cbro.\u201d Gen Z has created an entire dictionary of words and phrases that sound like English but can leave you blinking in confusion if you don\u2019t keep up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, being the word nerd that I am, I decided to decode some of these expressions for all of us who\u2019ve ever thought,\u00a0\u201cWait, what does that even mean?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gen Z Dictionary<\/strong> \ud83d\udcd6\u2728<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bet<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Agreement or confirmation.\u00a0\u201cSee you at 7?\u201d \u201cBet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cap \/ No Cap<\/strong> \u2013 Cap = lie; No Cap = truth. \u201cThat\u2019s cap.\u201d \/ \u201cI\u2019m serious, no cap.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeet<\/strong> \u2013 To throw something with force (or just excitement). \u201cHe yeeted his bag on the couch.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simp<\/strong> \u2013 Someone who does too much for the person they like. \u201cHe\u2019s such a simp for her.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lit<\/strong> \u2013 Fun, exciting, amazing. \u201cThe party was lit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheesh<\/strong> \u2013 Expression of disbelief or admiration. \u201cSheesh, that outfit is fire!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snack<\/strong> \u2013 Someone who looks really attractive. \u201cHe\u2019s looking like a snack.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drip<\/strong> \u2013 Cool fashion or style. \u201cCheck out his drip.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stan<\/strong> \u2013 To be a big fan of someone. \u201cI stan this artist.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rizz<\/strong> \u2013 Short for charisma, usually about flirting. \u201cHe\u2019s got mad rizz.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boujee<\/strong> \u2013 Fancy, luxurious, or high-class. \u201cThat restaurant is boujee.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salty<\/strong> \u2013 Bitter or annoyed about something small. \u201cShe\u2019s salty because she lost.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cheugy<\/strong> \u2013 Outdated, trying too hard. \u201cThat\u2019s so cheugy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sus<\/strong> \u2013 Suspicious, shady. \u201cThat excuse sounds sus.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Receipts<\/strong> \u2013 Proof, usually screenshots. \u201cShow me the receipts.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bop<\/strong> \u2013 A really good song. \u201cThis track is a bop.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slaps \/ Main Slaps<\/strong> \u2013 Something amazing, usually music or food. \u201cThis pizza slaps.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based<\/strong> \u2013 Being unapologetically yourself, not caring what others think. \u201cThat\u2019s a based opinion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ate<\/strong> \u2013 To do something perfectly. \u201cShe ate that performance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ate and Left No Crumbs<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Did something so well there\u2019s nothing left to critique.\u00a0\u201cHer speech left no crumbs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honestly, half these words make me laugh, half make me feel like I need a translator living in my house (thank you, sis-in-laws \ud83d\ude05). But hey, language keeps evolving, and maybe that\u2019s the fun part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
